|| BIOECONOMICS ||

The history of conceiving and developing the new science of SOPHIOLOGY, process that took more than twenty years, is a very good example of intellectual journey generated by the inborn thirst of knowledge and by the active implication in the destiny of humankind.
My study started from the stressing problems of the planetary ecological crisis, aiming to prospect the possibility of building a bridge between economy and ecology to solve this crisis. The initial idea was that ecology could offer principles and methods, and economy - means and resources, to solve this crisis. A quite outspread idea, so my study had primarily the vocation to investigate the possibility of a conceptual and operational osmosis between the aforementioned fields.
Very soon I came to the conclusion that this field of investigation is wider than expected. Mainly, because THE MONDIAL ECOLOGICAL CRISIS IS THE SUPPORT OF A VERY DEEP MORAL CRISIS OF THE CONTEMPORARY HUMANKIND, ON WHICH LIES THE TRIPLE WEIGHT OF (1) THE ECOLOGICAL SUFFERINGS ACCUMULATED DURING THE CENTURIES OF ANARCHIC DEVELOPMENT, OF (2) TODAY’S EVOLUTIONS THAT LACK COHERENT ATTITUDE OF ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AND OF (3) THE STRESSING NECESSITY TO FIND A GLOBAL AND LASTING SOLUTION TO ALL THESE PROBLEMS.
In a word, we could even statute that the present time ecological crisis is above all a symptom of human blindness, which did not take into consideration a few laws that were hidden to his acknowledgement till now, but that he has no more reasons not to take them into account.
I became quickly convinced that these laws are not only natural laws, but they act in all biomorphic systems, inclusively the man-made ones. By his condition of element of the biosphere, as well by his perpetual opening towards the natural environment, man cannot elude any of his endeavors from the action of the laws that I put into light.

Before defining these laws I introduced or redefined a few concepts, as:

1) SOCIOSPHERE - that assembles (1) the human population relatively uniformly spread on the surface of the planet, (2) the totality of the links that are established between the members of this population in their dual quality of biological and social community and (3) the totality of relations that are established between the humankind and the biological and physical/chemical elements of the planetary ecosphere.

2) INDUSTRIOSPHERE - that assembles (1) the totality of the links that are established between the humankind and the planetary environment, by technical means, in the goal of obtaining the raw materials and the exosomatic energy that are necessary for the development and the perpetuation of the existence of the sociosphere and (2) the totality of the relations between the members of the human society generated by their actions on natural environment or by the possession and utilization of the production means or of the outcomes of the production.
Functionally, I defined THE INDUSTRIOSPHERE as THE SPECIALISED SUBSYSTEM OF THE SOCIOPSHERE WHOSE OBJECT IS THE DINAMIC INTEGRATION OF HUMANKIND TO THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT.
A very important aspect seemed to me to be the fact that the present level of development of the industriosphere shows that the contemporary humankind is up to 100 times more dependent on the natural environment than our archaic ancestors were (the archaic man had a consumption of 2,500-3,000 Kcal/day, as an individual from the developed countries needs for his daily living up to 300,000 exosomatic Kcal.)

3) HUMANITY’S ENVIRONMENT OF LIFE - that assembles (1) all the elements of the natural environment that can be reached by direct action or by simple knowledge and (2) all the elements that compose the social environment, seen as a structure of relations that humans establish during the complex process of social integration.
At this point I was forced by my own arguments to admit that a new science is needed to study the dynamic connection between humankind and his environment of life - and I used a name that was mentioned before by different authors, but without carrying out the proper intellectual work.

I could define now the new science of BIOECONOMICS as THE SCIENCE OF HUMANITY’S DYNAMIC INTEGRATION TO THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. Or, in an extended definition, BIOECONOMICS IS THE SYSTEMATIC BODY OF KNOWLEDGE ON THE INDUSTRIOSPHERE SEEN AS A DYNAMIC SYSTEM, AS WELL AS ON THE PROCESS OF THE DYNAMIC INTEGRATION OF HUMANKIND TO THE PLANETARY ECOSPHERE.

The laws of bioeconomics were highlighted in my work beginning from various dynamic bindings put into evidence by the ecologists, but that are also present in the economic patterns. They are the following ones:

1) SPECIALIZATION LAW - as the multitude of the elements that compose a biomorphic system is bigger, the specialization to a structural and functional role is more important.

2) OPTIMALITY LAW - the functioning of the biomorphic systems is possible only between certain limits of intensity of the substantial, energetic and informational flows.

3) MINIMALITY LAW - the growth and functioning of a biomorphic system is conditioned by the element of the environment that is available in the smallest quantity.

4) DEGRESIVITY LAW - the favorable action of the environment on the growth and development of a biomorphic system is diminishing proportionally to the increase of the incomes to the system.

5) GLOBAL PERFORMANCE LIMITATION LAW - in quasi-closed biomorphic systems, as the planetary ecosphere is, on long term the average production and accumulation are constant.

6) FUNDAMENTAL LAW – the specialization of industriosphere is to ensure a high quality of humankind’s environment of life by the functional optimization of the process of dynamic integration to the natural environment.
The arguments in favor of the fundamental law are that in every living system specializations are taking place, resulting from the living matter’s specific endeavor to ensure an optimal existence, as little as possible submitted to all kind of pressures and limitations. In a word, the will to exist is materialized in searching and ensuring an optimal environment of life.

Man is the unique terrestrial being that can voluntarily and consciously act to build his own environment of life. But he is deeply wrong if he imagines that he could continue doing this ignoring the laws of bioeconomics or, worse, not respecting them on purpose.
MY CONCLUSION IS THAT ONLY TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE LAWS OF BIOECONOMICS HUMANKIND COULD SUCCESSFULLY INTEGRATE TO THE PLANETARY ENVIRONMENT, ENSURING A HIGH LEVEL OF QUALITY TO ENVIRONMENT OF LIFE.

Finally, what does BIOEOCONOMICS bring to us?
1) Bioeconomics puts into evidence the laws that act in biomorphic systems, explaining the way these laws show their presence and act;
2) Bioeconomics could contribute to solve the severe distortions existing in the relations of humankind with the natural environment, by developing specific techniques and, above all, ensuring a proper education of the entire humankind;
3) Bioeconomics ensures the reformation of industriosphere on new basis, starting from his own laws, fact that would ensure a high quality to the social components of the environment of life of the humankind;
4) Bioeconomics prepares on a scientific basis the new steps in humankind’s development, mainly the reformation of the industriosphere and the cosmic expansion of humankind - processes that are only at their beginnings, but in which we are no more allowed to reiterate the sins of the past.
The laws of bioeconomics are, in the most direct way, laws of action. They show us the way in which we should organize our development in order to live in harmony with nature and with ourselves. Nothing is more moral for the humankind than respecting the laws above his will, such laws as the laws of bioeconomics are. The development of the science of bioeconomics brought to me one of the more exciting intellectual development that ever occurred to a human being.

I did not force the facts, but THE FACTS FORCED ME TO SUPPOSE THAT WHAT I CALLED “THE LAWS OF BIOECONOMICS” ARE ONLY SPECIFIC ACTIONS OF A PANEL OF LAWS THAT ACT ON THE LEVEL OF THE GENERAL EXISTENCE AND ORGANIZATION OF THE UNIVERSAL MATTER.
Starting from the existing balance between entropy and negentropy, that gives to the universal matter the attributes of self-organization and stability, I introduced a new concept: COMPLEX ASSOCIATIVE PHENOMENA (CAP) that describes every form of organization of the matter, starting from the atom and finishing with the galaxies or the terrestrial ecosphere.

The laws that rule the existence and evolution of CAPs are, as for bioeconomics:
1) SPECIALISATION LAW - every CAP is the result of, and is submitted to, a wide process of structural and functional specialization.
2) OPTIMALITY LAW - the functioning of a CAP is possible only between certain limits of intensity of the substantial, energetic and informational flows.
3) MINIMALITY LAW - the development of a CAP is conditioned by the element of the environment that is available in the smallest quantity.
4) DEGRESIVITY LAW - the favorable action of the environment on a CAP is diminishing proportionally to the increase of the inputs to the system.
5) GLOBAL PERFORMANCE LIMITATION LAW - in every situation CAPs are submitted to momentary and global limitation of their performance (output).

We don’t have a fundamental law here - what I called “the fundamental law of bioeconomics” is specific to bioeconomics, and highlights the vocation of this science to insure the active integration of humankind to his environment of life. I was brought to the necessity to build a new science, WHOSE LAWS DESCRIBE THE EXISTENCE AND EVOLUTION OF ALL FORMS OF STRUCTURATION OF THE UNIVERSAL MATTER.
I decided to call this new science SOPHIOLOGY (Sophia=wisdom, logos=science) THAT LITERALLY MEANS THE SCIENCE OF WISDOM. This is the way sophiology was born. I must point out, strong as stone, that the ONLY WAY HUMANKIND COULD ACHIEVE A SUCCESSFUL INTEGRATION TO THE ENVIRONMENT IS BY OBSERVING THE LAWS OF BIOECONOMICS.
